Who Uses the Mobile Internet?
1. 69% of users are male and 31% are female.
2. Sixty-six percent (66%) are between the ages of 20 – 30.
3. Majority of users (60%) have post-secondary education – from trade schools to university.
4. Blue-collar and service industry workers are a core part of the mobile internet community. Students, however, account for nearly one-third of mobile internet users and freelancers & small business owners (such as beauty salons, coffee stalls and convenience stores) make up another 20%.

What do They Do?
5. Sixty percent of members list communication as the main reason for going online. Chatting, blogging, discussion groups and forums are popular.
6. Entertainment and news sites also draw people online. Sixteen percent of survey respondents say the use the mobile internet to play games, listen to music and watch videos. Another ten percent stay up-to-date on current affairs.

How do They Access the Mobile Internet?
7. More than ninety percent use mobile devices to access the internet. (But they are NOT on the move).
8. Nokia is the preferred phone in most markets. Nearly half of mobile consumers across the BuzzCity network are using Nokia phones.

When do They Surf?
9. The majority of users (60%) are at home when they go online. The percentage of people who access the internet while outdoors or in transit is minimal.
10. Access is regular and frequent: 87% of users surf at least once a day. Half of all users go online more than five times a day. More than sixty percent of respondents spend thirty minutes or more online each time they log in.
11. Usage is spread throughout the day, but the most popular time to surf starts in the early evenings and continues past midnight. Few people go online during the lunch hour.

More About the User:
12. Surfers want to be able to do more with their mobile devices. Much wanted services include airtime transfers, the ability to pay bills and purchase tickets, items for online games and financial services such as remittances, loans and transfers.
13. In particular, there are excellent opportunities for banks and other providers of financial services; more than half of the users say they would use their mobile phones for financial services. One-third would like to be able to transfer money.
14. Nearly three-quarters of respondents have made remote purchases (via mail, phone and internet) and 20% have used their mobile phone to buy something.
15. Books, downloads and virtual gifts are the most popular items purchased.
16. Top on their shopping list for 2009 are video game consoles and computer-peripherals.
17. More than half are likely to look for a new job within the coming year, either because they will graduate from school or are looking to switch employers.
18. Even though surfers connect to the mobile internet several times a day, often for an hour or more at a time, they are not “couch potatoes”. Thirty-five percent of survey respondents enjoy outdoor sports or go to the gym. Family gatherings are second on the list of favorite activities.
19. The electronic media – TV, movies, music – is by far the favourite leisure activity of our users. Yet less than four percent of respondents have purchased movie tickets online or via their mobile phones.
20. A high number, 58%, already own or are considering purchasing a personal computer.
