Sports Enthusiats Fuel 65% Increase in Mobile Game Download from Djuzz

Interest in Formula One, the World Cup and Twenty20 cricket increase visitors to BuzzCity’s mobile gaming platform by 51%

12 May, 2010: During April BuzzCity’s mobile games portal, Djuzz, delivered more than 1.2 million games to 1.82 million unique users globally. Much of the user demand came from sports fans looking to expand their interaction with their favourite sports into the mobile space – racing downloads accounted for at least 20% of the top games lists for several countries, whilst football games entered the top list in many others.

The most popular games during the month included:

KF Lai, CEO of BuzzCity, said, “50% of the games download during April were in the racing category and we believe much of the interest is being fuelled by interest in the new Formula One season. As enthusiasm for global sports events starts to increase, we are able to observe a correlation in the interests of our mobile users.

“Games developers who are savvy enough to develop new content in line with key seasonal events which have a global impact, will experience a significant increase in success.

Understanding regional variations will also ensue that developers are placing their content in front of the right audience. For example in South Africa, World Cup fever seems to be really heating up as football games take two spots in the Top 10 whereas in Romania, racing reigns supreme, accounting for 60% of the top games.”

Nokia’s dominance in the Top 10 Handsets category has been challenged this month as two of Samsung’s feature phones enter in second and third place – the GT-S3310 and the SGH E250. Other handsets including Sony Ericsson and Motorola are also starting to climb the charts as more users from Venezuela, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria and Spain start to enter the mobile games market.

KF continued, “The successful games on Djuzz succeed because they can be played on a variety of devices and platforms, ranging from feature phones to next generation smart phones, and are therefore accessible to a range of sectors in society. Creating interesting and engaging content is only the first phase of being a successful games developer – ensuring your content is accessible to a wide variety of people is the crucial next step.”
