London, 24th March 2011: Ahead of the start of the Formula 1 season taking place in Australia this weekend global mobile media company BuzzCity has today released statistics on the rise of motorsport-themed mobile games. Data from its mobile gaming site, Djuzz (m.djuzz.com), shows in excess of 1.2million game downloads a month, compared with 630,000 per month this time last year. This latest data reveals more than 90% increase in motorsports mobile games being downloaded over the past year, demonstrating the appeal of racing games on a mobile platform.
Within its top 50 games BuzzCity has identified 12 racing-themed games including Underground Racer, 3D Street Racing and GTS World Racing. The latter received tremendous growth in March - 4,700 downloads per day compared to less than 100 daily downloads in January.
BuzzCity’s CEO KF Lai comments “Since Djuzz launched last year, motorsports games have appealed to our audience and downloads have been on the increase. With the start of the F1 season this week this upward curve looks set to continue as fans reignite their interest in the sport via these games.”
According to Djuzz the top 5 countries which have been most active in downloading motorsports games are India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Vietnam and South Africa. In February these countries generated more than 1 million downloads of racing games and more than 900,000 by the third week of March.
